Are you a
long time christian?
8. how can we make more people to come to church?
Christians today make many efforts to attract new people to churches. They do all kinds of strategies to increase the number of members and regular visitors. In many cases these methods used seem to be drawn out of a marketing book.
Although more than one of these methods are incompetent with the gospel of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible, we do not dispute that some may be effective (in the Bible we have the example of Philip, who went to preach in an unusual way the eunuch in the chariot in the desert).
Our task is to know which methods are pleasing to God, and therefore effective, and which are not of fragrant aroma to God (although they seem effective):
Example of ineffective methods of evangelization (for God):
- Any method that deviates from the gospel of Jesus Christ. Anyone who avoids naming the name of
Jesus. Anyone who avoids naming the gospel of salvation (through concerts where no one talks
about Jesus, plays that do not speak of the Bible etc ....).
- Any method that leads or may lead to sin (please write us a message and we will elaborate on what methods lead to sin)
- Any method that profanes the temple: non-Christian music in the Church, broadcasting of sporting
events in the temple of God .... etc. (Remember that Jesus Christ cast out the moneychangers and
sellers, and He was not a legalist, see John 2: 13-22.)
Examples of effective evangelism methods:
- Preaching by our example. By having a life of holiness, repentance and seeking God, we can touch
other people around us through the work of God in us. This is one of the most effective ways that
God gave us.
- Preaching in the streets and squares (we have many examples in the Bible and it was a
commandment that Jesus Christ commanded us, see Mark 16:15-16, Romans 10:14-15 and Luke 8:1
among others ...).
- Preaching in the church. We firmly believe in the power God has placed in the preaching that goes
on in church gatherings. For this reason we do not recommend the replacement of preaching
(especially on Sundays) for other activities like plays, Christian movies etc. .....
- Any other way where the message of salvation by faith alone in Jesus Christ and repentance of our .
sins, is presented clearly and not camouflaged. (We can do it anywhere, in the streets, malls, parks,
wherever we go, through Christian films, events ..... etc.).
The first thing that we need to do is to be well interiorly (our personal relationship with God) and the latter, and not least, for the church to be united and be an example. As Jesus told the apostles, first they should "preach" and teach the Christians (Jews of the time) and later, once the sound doctrine is in place, preach to others (Matthew 10:5-7) .
Importance of a life in Holiness
First and most importantly, in order to attract more people to church we should present our lives as a good example (inside and out) of followers of Christ. We should live a holy life, in search and communion with God. (A life of daily Bible reading and repentance of our sins) This will make our attitude and our actions reflect God in us, and therefore we will not be a reason for unbelievers to reject God.
Romans 2:24
24 For “THE NAME OF GOD IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES BECAUSE OF YOU,” just as it is written.
Holiness in the Church
The example of the church we attend and the universal church in general, is very important in attracting people to God. If everyone has a life of holiness, this will be reflected in the churches. Certainly it is very difficult for everyone to have a life of holiness, but it does not exclude the fact that we should seek it.
1 Peter 1:15
15 but [a]like the Holy One who called you, [b]be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
If in the church a holy life and fear of God is present (at least in the leaders!). The the sound doctrine and exemplary conduct will then govern the Church. When there is lack of fear of God and holiness, the perverted gospel that tries to take advantage of people flourishes (gospel only focused on money), and generates scandals in the Church (adultery, fornication, legal scandals, tampering, fraud etc. ...).
This is why Jesus called the apostles to preach first in Jerusalem. After the church had a sound doctrine and the true gospel then were they to move onto reach the lost souls:
Matthew 10:5-7
These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: “Do not [a]go [b]in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter anycity of the Samaritans; 6 but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, [c]preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven [d]is at hand.’
Conclusion
Once we can distinguish the methods that are acceptable to God to bring souls to salvation; and we realize that the reflection of God in our lives is vital, then we can bring souls to the church more effectively. When the unsaved hear the message through us, or when they come visit our churches, the sound doctrine and the presence of God manifested will touch them. This generates churches to grow in the most effective way ever to exist.
