Are you a

long time christian?

6. the importance of evangelization

Mark 16:15-16

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Evangelism is the weapon that we as Christians have to get the message of salvation to those who disbelieve. We must understand that evangelism is not an option, it is a mandate that Jesus Christ established for us to accomplish. One of the fruits of our love for Jesus Christ is speaking of Him and preaching His gospel:

Isaiah 61:1

1 The Spirit of the Lord [a]GOD is upon me,

Because the LORD has anointed me

To bring good news to the [b]afflicted;

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to captives

And [c]freedom to prisoners;

Perhaps at the beginning of our life as a Christian, evangelizing to others may cause us to be shy. However, we must ask God to help us and to take away our shyness and fear of being rejected, because the message of salvation is God's power.

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

We must be prepared

The good news of salvation does not sit well with everyone. We must be ready to receive comments, both good and bad. Remember, what for us is the power of God to others is foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:18).

It is not to wonder that when we preach, people will insult us or reject us. However, this should not be a problem because we are doing the holy will of God.

John 15:18-19

“If the world hates you, [a]you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.

Matthew 5:11

Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

John 16:33

These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

1 Peter 4:14

If you are reviled [a]for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Souls need to know God and that is why we need to evangelize. People get lost and die without knowing the gospel of salvation and the person of Jesus Christ. We must evangelize and care for souls:

Romans 10:14-15

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO [a]BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!”

Today a new model of evangelization is being taught. It is thought to be more enjoyable and in accord to the culture. We have nothing against this form of preaching, it is often useful and effective as long as it does not profane the temple of God (the church), and the Inner Temple (our body and spirit).. With all this, what we recommend is the evangelization that over the years has been proven most effective, the one we see in the Bible. We can divide it into two parts:

1. Preaching in the streets, squares etc .... (Public Places)

2. Preaching by our example

1. Preaching in the streets, squares etc .... (Public Places)

Of this type of evangilization we have numerous examples and testimonies in the Bible. Both Jesus and the disciples preached in all sorts of places, countries and cultures. Any place and time was good to give the good news of salvation.

There are many verses that testify to this, here we mention some examples like:

• Any site: Jesus Christ preached in every city and village, preaching and proclaiming the gospel (Luke

8:1), on a mountain (Sermon on the Mount "Matthew 5 to 7") and etc ....

• Any time of day: Jesus Christ preached at night to Nicodemus (John 3).

• Any circumstance: In Acts 8:26-40, Philip was called to preach to the eunuch who was in his chariot,

Philip joined the chariot, preached the gospel of Jesus and helped him understand the Word of God

(this passage demonstrates the importance of knowing the word and its revelation). The same

eunuch asked Philip to baptize him.

• On the way to the Church / at the door of the church: Peter and John were on their way to the temple

and at the door was a man lame from birth. He was healed in the name of Jesus and by this Peter

and John could testify and preach to the men of Israel who were there.

• In any culture: In Acts 17 :16-34 we see how Paul was led to preach in another country, Greece, with a

polytheistic religion different from the Jewish culture. Still his message did not change and preaching

the gospel of Jesus Christ was presented to the Greeks and some were converted.

2. Preaching through our example.

Surely the example that we show as Christians is our most effective weapon of evangelism. The example and integrity that we show people outside will make them see that we are different. This will cause people to be converted because we no longer represent ourselves but Jesus Christ. We are representatives of His image and His deeds. (PLEASE READ topic 7 "The Importance of our example).

Conclusion

Evangelism is essential; it is a direct command of Jesus Christ to our lives. We need to have joy in sharing the good news of salvation. We must share this news with everyone (friends, family, coworkers, school etc ....). We do not  have to preach with persuasion, we just have to have fellowship with Jesus Christ and He will put the words in our mouth and our message will have power!

1Corinthians 2:3-5

I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, 4 and my [a]message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not [b]rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.
