4. who is jesus christ?

Introduction

Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem; his earthly parents were Mary and Joseph. Mary’s pregnancy was not produced by the union of Mary and Joseph, but by the Works of the Holy Spirit. ( Matthew 1:18/ Luke 1:26-35). Jesus is therefore, the Son of God (second person in the Trinity), the Anointed and the Messiah. Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit are the same person, hence Jesus Christ is God.

The Bible indicates that Jesus had earthly brothers, produced from the marriage between His parents, Mary and Joseph. Mary and Joseph had four sons: James, Joseph, Judas and Simon (Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3) along with several daughters. This is clear, not only by the various quotations found in the Bible, but also because Jesus is called the firstborn son (Matthew 1:25, Luke 2:7) indicating He had brothers who followed Him. Had Jesus been Mary’s only son, He would have been called the only begotten.

Jesus Christ was a very intelligent child, wise and interested in the things of God (luke 2:44-52). He worked as a carpenter and at the age of 30 He began His ministry. ( Like 3:23).

Over the next three years of His life, Jesus Christ was fully devoted to His ministry and preaching the Word of God with power and authority. Jesus healed the sick, saved, casted out demons, cleansed lepers and amazed all who were around Him.

After a period of time, Jesus was betrayed by Judas, one of his twelve disciples, and was surrendered to the authorities for His upcoming crucifixion. All these events confirmed the biblical prophecies written previously (Psalms, Isaiah, Zecharia, etc…) concerning Jesus’s life, betrayl, and how the Son of God and Messiah was to die. None of these facts suprised Jesus, for He knew the events to come in advance.

Jesus Christ was crucified and on the third day, He rose from the dead and resurrected ( Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, and John 20). After the resurrection, Jesus appeared a total of 12 times to His disciples and other persons.

The death and resurrection of Jesus meant the forgiveness of sins, a new life free from the condemnation of past sins and eternal life for everyone who believes in Him.

What was His purpose?

His purpose on earth was to come as man and live life as a man without sin, showing that when submitting to God we can do His will and overcome temptation. He came to bear all the sins of mankind on the cross, to free us from condemnation, to die for us, to forgive our sins by showing repentance and faith in Him, to free us from all bondage of this world, to free us of eternal death and to bring eternal salvation through faith in Him and only in Him.
