7. why do  bad things happen in the world if god exists?

Often, the question is asked of why or how it is possible that bad things happen in this world (robbery, kidnapping, domestic violence, wars, extortion, manipulation, injustice, poverty, etc…) if God exists. How can a God who calls Himself “good” allow so many disasters, hurt and evil things?

Thank God this all has an answer. Your questions and doubts will be resolved below:

Since the creation, God gave man free will, leaving man the option to use his own will. This freedom is a gift from God to all men. This shows firstly God’s kindess of not binding or enslaving anyone to do His will, but rather giving man the option to choose whatever he/she wants to do and whoever he/she wants to serve. Secondly, this gift from God shows His sovereignty. He, as being God, could perfectly obligate us to serve Him and do His will, but instead He gave man total freedom.

Man holding himself to this freedom has the option to choose two paths:

1.The way of man’s nature (sinful from birth)

2.The way and will of God (loving and gentle)

1. The way of man’s nature (sinful from birth)

When we speak of the way of man being sinful from birth, we are referring to the evil that is within man from birth, which blooms in the first instance during infancy and develops over the rest of his/her life.

For example, all children show signs of evil, to a lesser or greater extent during childhood (lying, disobedience to parents, selfishness, violence, theft, insults, malicious jokes etc...). This evil does not blame or punish the child, as he/she is acting in innocence and without knowledge of his/her actions or of its consequences, but this shows the evidence of the innate evil in man.

This innate evil not being subject to God or His will, will evolve to a greater or lesser extent depending on the individual and their environment (environment in which the person surround himself/herself, friendships, ambitions, etc…). For this reason, when man is not subject to God and His will, he remains free to do as he wishes or what his environment allows him to do. This implies that misfortunes that man causes in this world are nothing more than the consequences of their evil ideas, internal purposes and the lack of God in their lives.

2. The way and will of God (loving and gentle)

If man chooses the path of God, then his actions will not reflect anything but the will of God. This means to love God with all our heart, and consequently loving one another without showing partiality of persons because of their race, tribe or nation. This would imply the termination of evil in the world (wars, violence, injustice, poverty etc…).

Therefore, God could not be accused of the evil and injustices that man commits during his lifetime. The Bible shows us that God will judge each individual after this life. Those who do not follow God’s will, will be recompensed according to their works (Revelation 20:12).

Let’s stop blaming God for something that He did not commit and let’s begin to follow His perfect way and will so we can change this world in His mighty and wonderful name!

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that He gave His [a]only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
